I was delivering a New Media seminar today when one of the attendees told me she didn’t think Facebook was a good fit because her clients were too old.
I came back to my office and Mashable had a great article about how Baby Boomers and Seniors Are Flocking to Facebook. I wish that article had come out a day earlier!
If you think about it, Facebook is a natural for a mature audience. They’re children are grown up and maybe moved far away. What better mechanism than Facebook to stay in touch? It’s easy to share photos of the grand-kids and quick updates about what is going on in their children’s lives.
Add in a set of friends from “way back” who are scattered to the 4 winds. Wouldn’t it be nice to reconnect with college friends, army buddies, High School reunions.
Wait a minute, that’s what everyone is doing! Why would people over 50, over 60, be any different than the rest of us? 350 million of us think Facebook is the way to stay in touch. We can’t all be wrong.
